Glossary

The following things I have categorized as geek terminology and have used them at some point in my blog. Let this act as the rosetta stone between our peoples.

Spawn: A spawn point is a location where you come into the game. When you start the game or sometimes when you die, you will start playing the game again from that point. Spawn is what you do at the spawn point. Start, or restart, existence in the game. This can pertain to human players or computer controlled caracters, good and bad alike. Even items have spawn points.

RTS: Stands for Real Time Strategy. Think of a popular board game like risk or axis and allies. You can consider them strategy games. You take turns and utilize strategy among other means to win. Real time strategy is the same only its played in real time, meaning no turns. The StarCraft and Age of Empires series are popular examples.

Strafing:

RPG: Stands for Role Playing Game. Rather self explanatory, you take the role of a character and.. play. Usually you have some sort of adventure and slay monsters and gain stats and stuff.

MMO: Stands for Massively Multiplayer Online game. The only criteria is in its name really. It can be an RPG or RTS or even a Sandbox Game. One of the most famous MMO's is World of WarCraft aka WOW.

APM: Stands for actions per minuet. Is really just how you measure how fast your doing things. Moving fast, clicking your mouse alot gives you a high APM and generally means you are a better player. APM can mean life or death in StarCraft 2.

LOS: Stands for Line Of Sight. Self explanatory; how far you can see.

Potions: Generally used for healing or as a weapon. In the Diablo series potions are consumed in order to rapidly heal the character.
